WomenHeart co-hosted a reception on Capitol Hill with other members of the National Coalition for Heart and Stroke Research to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), a part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) on June 28, 2018.
We were privileged to hear NHLBI Director Dr. Gary Gibbons speak at the reception about the history of the Institute and the important strides in medical research, prevention, and treatment of heart, lung, and blood diseases in recent decades.
NHLBI is a global leader in research, training, and education programs to help prevent and treat heart disease and more. It is also a key partner with WomenHeart in working to support women living with or at risk of heart disease.
Moving forward, WomenHeart is partnering with NHLBI, as well as the Indian Health Service, to host a gathering of experts this fall to discuss heart health in the Native American community. Discussion will focus on ways to implement effective prevention efforts and culturally appropriate support services for Native American women living with heart disease.
Partnership, collaboration, and working in coalition are critical ways in which WomenHeart works to raise awareness, expand our reach, and advance our policy goals. We are thrilled to have a strong relationship with NHLBI, an important federal agency, working together to improve the lives of women with heart disease.
