Dr. Caroline Berchuck on behalf of McKinsey Health Institute: Excellence in Health Advocacy
Caroline Morgan Berchuck, MD, MPH is an Associate Partner in McKinsey & Company’s Atlanta office, and Affiliated Leader of the McKinsey Health Institute (MHI). She supports healthcare clients design care delivery models for complex and historically underserved populations. Caroline co-leads McKinsey’s work helping payers, providers, and health services organizations care for people dually eligible for Medicare and Medicaid. She also co-leads MHI’s work on women’s health, with the aim of eliminating gender-related disparities in healthcare delivery and meeting holistic healthcare needs for women around the world. Caroline is a faculty member at Harvard Medical School.
“Cardiovascular disease affects women of all ages and phases of life. In the US, it is the leading cause of death for women and our research at the McKinsey Health Institute reveals a persistent gap in care and access between men and women. This shouldn’t be the case, and women deserve better. By addressing gaps in care delivery and access, evolving the curriculum and training in medical schools, and facilitating research to better understand the biological differences between men and women, we can close the women’s heart health gap and enable healthier futures.”
The McKinsey Health Institute (MHI) is an enduring, non-profit-generating Institute within McKinsey & Company. MHI believes, over the next decade, humanity could add as much as 45 billion extra years of higher-quality life, which is roughly six years per person on average — and substantially more in some countries and populations. MHI’s mission is to catalyze the actions needed across continents, sectors, and communities to realize this possibility.
