Cathy Porter is an advocate for women living with heart disease; she attended WomenHeart’s Science and Leadership Symposium in 2004, volunteers at Saint Luke’s Health System’s Muriel I. Kauffman Women’s Heart Center, American Heart Association and WomenHeart, the National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease. She started WomenHeart’s Overland Park Support Network in November of 2005; she is a support network coordinator; a WomenHeart Mid-South District Leader and public speaker/educator, advocating for women’s heart health. Cathy is a former member of the Kansas City Board of Directors for the American Heart Association and a former Patient Ambassador for Medtronic. Cathy is one of two who started the HeartScarves program in the Kansas City area. The program provides educational information and a handmade scarf, made by members of the community, which represents support for women who are newly diagnosed with heart disease.
Cathy graduated from Northeast Missouri State University, with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She worked as a senior manager at Sprint, where she was recognized for her leadership skills, operational efficiencies, and process improvement. She enjoys retired life with her husband Scott and loves spending time with her family. In her spare time, Cathy enjoys quilting with her friends.
