Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women in the US, with over 1 in 5 women dying of a heart condition – a higher rate than cancer.
Still, thousands of women are unaware of their odds, unfamiliar with their risk factors, or uninformed about the signs and symptoms of heart disease in women – many don’t even know that such symptoms differ from men’s experiences.
At WomenHeart, we’re committed to changing this reality. We believe that knowledge is power. Education, advocacy and resources are essential in preventing and addressing heart disease in women.
Here is how you can support our mission
Advocate
Women’s heart health begins by ensuring that:
- Every woman has access to affordable health insurance
- Women are properly represented and included in heart disease research
- Understanding that heart disease looks different in men and women
- Knowing your risk factors, family history, and personal health
WomenHeart works to advance federal policies that support women living with and at risk of heart disease, and we train and encourage women to be advocates for themselves.
When you feel empowered, you can take decisive action toward your health and make your voice heard, whether it be with your doctor, insurance provider, or elected official. We are here to provide the resources and tools you need to be most effective.
