Carol Allred, President

Carol Allred headshot (small)

Carol Allred became president of the board of directors in January 2008. She was elected to the board in 2005, became the secretary in 2006 and served as president-elect in 2007.

Carol found WomenHeart after suffering a major heart attack in 2003. She suffered from angina and heart failure, and had several traumatic experiences from adjusting to medicines to going through cardiac procedures and having a defibrillator implant – all within a very short time. Like so many women who have heart disease, she wanted to put her life back in order by learning more about heart disease and the steps she needed to take to live a healthier life.

After discovering WomenHeart, Carol attended WomenHeart’s Science & Leadership Symposium at Mayo Clinic, and with the guidance and support of the organization, became a WomenHeart Champion and national spokesperson in 2004.

In addition to her participation in WomenHeart, Carol serves as a board member for the National Federation of Republican Women’s Committee on Women’s Health Issues, and on the board of the Texas Women’s Education Foundation.

Carol graduated from the School of Nursing at University of Oklahoma and later graduated Magna cum Laude from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. She is a C.P.A. and worked for two major national accounting firms in their private business advisory services divisions.

Carol has been married to her best friend, Robert, for 45 years. They have three children and seven very special grandchildren.
